The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit concluded successfully in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, with participation from over 130 countries and regions. The event, held both online and in-person, focused on the theme “Embracing a People-Centered and AI-for-Good Digital Future – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace.”
This year’s summit emphasized artificial intelligence (AI), addressing critical concerns around AI governance and development. Discussions centered on harnessing AI and digital technologies to benefit humanity, promoting an inclusive and responsible digital future.
Key highlights included the launch of the WIC Distinguished Contribution Award, honoring seven individuals and 14 enterprises for exceptional contributions to the global internet sector. The WIC Specialised Committee on Artificial Intelligence was also established to foster international cooperation and exchange in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
The summit introduced the WIC Think Tank Cooperation Programme, bringing together 60 think tanks from WIC member organizations and leading international institutions. This initiative aims to create a lasting platform for academic exchange and thought leadership in the global digital space.
Additionally, the newly formed WIC Digital Academy will focus on education and capacity-building in the digital sphere. It plans to roll out the WIC Global Elite Training Programme, equipping future leaders with the skills needed for a dynamic digital world. The 2024 WIC Summit underscored the importance of international collaboration and ethical AI development, paving the way for a more connected and equitable digital future.
