Doordarshan has been honored with the ECI Media Award in the Electronic Media (TV) category for its outstanding voter awareness campaign during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Recognized for its impactful coverage, including the widely acclaimed series “Chunav Ka Parv Desh Ka Garv,” the national broadcaster played a crucial role in promoting informed and responsible voting nationwide.
The award was presented to Director General of Doordarshan, Ms. Kanchan Prasad, by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, during the 15th National Voter’s Day celebrations on January 25, 2025, in New Delhi. This recognition highlights Doordarshan’s unwavering commitment to strengthening democracy by fostering voter education and awareness at a national level.
Doordarshan launched multiple initiatives to engage and educate citizens as part of its 360-degree voter awareness and education campaign. It developed and broadcast 30 short films focusing on voter education, ensuring that key electoral messages were conveyed in an engaging and informative manner. The campaign was extensively disseminated across DD National, DD India, and DD News, allowing it to reach audiences in every corner of the country, including remote and rural areas.
In addition to programming, Doordarshan implemented a series of advertising strategies to maximize voter participation. The use of L-band advertisements, Mug Branding, and 45-second ad spots helped reinforce the message of electoral responsibility and civic engagement. These efforts contributed significantly to motivating millions of citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Through its extensive campaign, Doordarshan has reaffirmed its role as a public service broadcaster dedicated to fostering an informed and active citizenry. This award further cements its position as a leading force in electoral awareness and democratic participation in India.
