Siddharth Jain has stepped down as Secretary General of the Indian Broadcasting & Digital Foundation (IBDF), marking the end of a transformative tenure that reshaped the body’s role in India’s fast-evolving media landscape.
Jain, who took charge in 2021, steered the foundation through one of the most dynamic phases in the industry. Traditionally a broadcasting-focused body, IBDF expanded its scope under his leadership to include the booming OTT and digital media ecosystem. Jain was instrumental in the creation of the Indian Digital Media Industry Foundation (IDMIF), providing OTT platforms with a structured industry voice. He also oversaw the establishment of the Digital Media Content Regulatory Council (DMCRC), a self-regulatory framework for digital platforms modeled after the Broadcast Content Complaints Council (BCCC).
These initiatives helped IBDF evolve into a unique, hybrid industry body representing both television broadcasters and digital players, a crucial shift amid rapid audience migration from TV screens to smartphones.
Founded in 1999 as the Indian Broadcasting Foundation, IBDF today represents more than 400 TV channels, covering nearly 90% of India’s television viewership, while increasingly asserting its influence in digital governance.
