Meta Platform’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has appointed Vishal Shah, one of the company’s most seasoned leaders, to head AI product management, reinforcing Meta’s deepening commitment to artificial intelligence. Announced on October 27, 2025, the move underscores Meta’s strategic pivot toward AI innovation as it races against global competitors like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic to build the next generation of intelligent systems.
Shah, who has been with Meta for over a decade, brings extensive experience in product leadership and innovation. He previously led Instagram’s product management for six years, shaping its growth into one of Meta’s flagship platforms, before taking on the role of Vice President of the Metaverse in 2021. In his new position, he will report directly to Nat Friedman, Meta’s Head of AI Product, and will oversee the company’s AI product strategy, development, and integration across its suite of platforms — including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
The appointment follows an internal restructuring of Meta’s AI operations, which included layoffs in its Superintelligence Labs unit and a renewed focus on agility and cross-functional collaboration. By elevating Shah, Zuckerberg aims to unify Meta’s AI vision under experienced leadership, ensuring that its technologies remain both scalable and responsible.
This leadership shift marks a defining moment in Meta’s evolution — one that signals a sharper, more cohesive strategy to solidify its position as a global AI powerhouse, while continuing to bridge innovation between AI and immersive metaverse experiences.
